The same word, twice
Alitaptap is the Filipino word for fireflies or lightning bugs. It is the name of this project — and it was the café's name first. They sit inside the Alitaptap Artists' Community in Amadeo, Cavite, an hour or so of climbing road above Manila Bay.
Nobody planned that, and we love it. The word covers the same thing in both places: a corner of the Philippine uplands where people still stop and notice the little light in the grass, and a map trying to keep a record of where those lights are left. A café named for a firefly helping a firefly map along feels about right.
A place worth the drive
It is family-run, and it grew out of an artists' community rather than being a shop that hung some paintings up. You can tell from the building: a timber pavilion under a wide curved roof, strung with lights, at the end of a boardwalk lined with carved faces. Somebody built this by hand, and it shows.
The art on the walls is by people from that community, and some of it is for sale. The kitchen turns out Filipino and international dishes. The coffee deserves its own sentence — Amadeo is the coffee capital of the Philippines, and the beans have not travelled far to reach your cup. Some evenings a visiting musician plays.
Their logo says all of this at once: a tree whose leaves are coffee beans, growing straight out of that roofline. A coffee town, and this is the house in it.
The setting is really the reason to go. It is green, it is quiet, and it gets properly dark in a way the edge of a city never does. We will not promise you fireflies — this site never promises anyone fireflies — but it is exactly the sort of country they like. If you do see one, we would love it if you logged it.

Walk-ins are very welcome. No booking needed: turn up, order a coffee, and give an afternoon to the art. If you are bringing a group or coming for a particular evening, a quick message ahead is kind — it is a small kitchen, and a little warning helps them look after you properly.
You will find them in Barangay Halang, Amadeo, Cavite, on the Halang–Alingaro road. For opening hours, what is cooking and whether anything is on that night, ask them directly: their Facebook page is where the news goes up, and Instagram is where the pictures land. Both stay current in a way a line of text on this page would not, which is why we have left the details to them.
