Going quiet

Possible sites where fireflies are vanishing

Places with a real record of fireflies that have since gone quiet. Nobody has logged one here in years — a question worth asking, not proof they are gone.

What this page does and does not say

A site goes quiet in our data when nobody uploads observations from it, and that is usually why: the observer moved away, the survey was a one-off, the person who posted them stopped. No records is not evidence of absence. What it is good for is telling you where it is worth going to look.

Possible — nothing recorded since

Built from iNaturalist records, never from unreviewed submissions. Each site has at least 5 of them, and nothing logged at all in the last 5 years.

Documented

Sites where a survey, paper or assessment has actually studied the loss. Every entry names its source.

Nothing here yet. An entry needs a published source that studied the site. Our own missing records are never enough, which is what the list above is for.

Been to one of these?

If you have seen fireflies at any of these sites, logging it is the fastest way to answer the question this page asks. So is telling us they were not there.
